My version of a shout-out, this page is dedicated to all those beautiful souls who have helped in making this dream a reality.
A big thank you to Laura Casey for designing the beautiful artwork that was found originally under the outer layer of my skin. She is a fantastic tattoo artist and an awesome person. If you are looking for ink in St. John's, Laura is your lady!
Without Cynthia's technical wizardry, the beautiful tattoo would still be on my arm and there would be no brilliant cover design (and swag!) Cynthia is a brilliant graphic artist and I would wholeheartedly recommend her for any project. Thank you, Cynthia!
A masterful man behind the camera, I want to thank Duncan for all of his help with the photography and for shooting the pitch video. You are a real gem of a human being and I am eternally grateful to you for your help.
I would be remiss if I did not give a shout out to all the kind and loving people from my yoga studio, Modo Yoga St. John’s, for all their love and support over the years. A special shout out to studio owner Jill Holden for really going above and beyond, including letting me set up a booth at the Sunset Savasana on Signal Hill in August 2018!
Thank you to Guy and Lee and the rest of the crowd at Publishizer! You are bringing publishing into the Internet age in a very cool way. Thank you for tirelessly working to answer questions and for making me feel personally valued. And an advance thank you for helping to bring this project to life!
What can I say about my time in Peru in 2014 and 2015. Words can barely do it justice. You can try reading my Reflection, Guru, to get a sense of what ayahuasca did for me. It helped me to get out of my own way and see the light. The place I went, Pulse Tours, is no more, but the people who hosted me have split off in to two different centres - Soltara and Ayahuasca Spirit. I am sure that both are fantastic places of healing. Thank you to the Pulse Tours team for everything.
I want to thank Sarah Jo, Annabelle and Jaime for making the best baby bottom balm we have ever had the good fortune of finding. We tried a bunch and theirs was without comparison. I spent many early mornings on baby duty while drafting this novel and I am not sure that it would have been possible without the perfectly healthy bum on my baby that their balm ensured. They make a ton of other natural products as well, so check them out if your are in the market for anything from sunscreen to tattoo salve to baby lotion. Thank you so much for everything!
Thank you to Zach Leary for the love and support. Zach has been around since the beginning of the Publishizer campaign. His kind heart and willingness to help with advertisement have been integral to the success of this project. Thank you, Zach!
I would like to offer a very special thank you to Neem Karoli Baba and Ram Dass, especially in Be Here Now. Without their teachings, I would not be half the man I am today.
atmosphere press was the very first publisher to contact me, and the one who stuck out in my mind as very author-friendly from the get-go. After hemming and hawing over five offers, I made the choice that my heart screamed at me to be correct. Nick Courtright, my editor and owner of atmosphere, was extremely pleasant and informative, offering real advice and helping to shape the book into what it has become. I am so grateful that the winds of the universe brought us together, and I am excited to see where destiny takes us next.
Thank you to everyone who suffered through a less-than-polished version of the novel in order to give me their thoughts and feelings. A big thank you to Janet, Shawn, Kerri, and Peter for agreeing to let me share their reviews - I am so humbled by what you said about the novel and I have nothing but gratitude for your words!
The Yoga of Strength would never have become a reality if not for the endless stream of hopeful music filtering through little headphones in the wee black hours of cold St. John's winter mornings well before sensible people started their days. Nahko and Medicine for the People, Trevor Hall, Satsang, mc yogi, Xavier Rudd, Laura-Beth Smith, Fortunate Ones, Hirie, Tubby Love, Mumford & Sons, Wookiefoot, The Arcadian Wild, SOJA, Sadhu Sensi, Jason Mraz, and a bunch more I am sure I am forgetting about at this moment - thank you! I am so grateful to have your beautiful works as the soundtrack of my life.
My own literary influences are many, but that is not going to stop me from naming a few of them here. In no particular order: Paulo Coelho, Homer, J.R.R. Tolkien, Irvine Welsh, Neil Gaiman, Mark Lawrence, R.A. Salvatore, Hermann Hesse, George R.R. Martin, Steven Pressfield, Frank Herbert, Clive Barker, Andrzej Sapkowski, Franz Kafka, Christopher Moore, Stephen King, Philip K. Dick, Salman Rushdie, Orson Scott Card, Jean Craighead George, Gunter Grass, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.. There is a host more, without a doubt. I am grateful for all you have done. My imagination would have atrophied long ago without you.
